Name: Glittery Pronouns: She/Her Age Group: 40s Dealbreaker(s): Right wing politics, bigoted and racist views, pro-zionism.
I Recently Finished Reading:While Justice Sleeps by Stacey Abrams. It was a standard political thriller that was interesting enough for me to add the remaining of the series to my library's TBR. A Book I Want to Reread: Michael Nava's The Death of Friends--which is book 5 in the Herny Rios' series. It's been almost a decade since I read it. It was one of the most downbeat books in the series, almost to the point of being exquisitely painful? That said, I tend to not reread books, so who knows. Some Published Titles From My To Be Read List:Magic Claims by Ilona Andrews (Book 2 of Kate Daniels The Wilmington Years), Hither Page by Cat Sebastian (Book 1 in an M/M Historical Mystery series), A Magical Girl Retires by Park Seolyeon, translated by Anton Hur (queer fantasy novella), and Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll (a crime mystery abt two women going against a serial killer in the late 1970s.) Related Book News I've Got My Eye On: None, hahah. I tend to catch up on Book Gossip (as in authors being messy, frex), but I'm not interested on what's being made, etc.
My All-Time Favorite Book(s):Nana by Emile Zola, The Age of Innocence by Edith Warthon, A Gentleman's Position by KJ Charles, Foxes by Suki Fleet, For the Love of April French by Penny Aimes, and Iron & Magic by Ilona Andrews My Favorite Book Genre(s): queer romance, mystery, and nonfiction abt women, people of color, and disability rights. Occasionally a comic book or two. A Book I Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s):Strange Love by Ann Aguirre. This is a story abt a woman and her dog who get 100% accidentally kidnapped by an alien. Due to time and space shenanigans, the woman agrees to pretend to be dating the alien and team up to survive a competition. I love the main pairing cuz they work as a team, there are also v. bizarre aliens as well as interesting worldbuilding. Most importantly, this book has the BEST CHARACTER EVER: Snaps. He's Beryl (the female protag)'s dog and he can talk. Yes, this book has a talking dog (thanks to an universal translator thingie.) At one point, Snaps is in a dangerous situation. NOTHING BAD HAPPENS TO SNAPS. I REPEAT, THE DOG IS A-OK BY THE END OF THE NOVEL!
This is a bit of a bonkers sci-fi forced proximity survival story that features monsterfucking of an interesting variety, imo. I remember reading this in one sitting (which is rare for me) cuz I was so entertained
A Book I Don't Recommend in My Favorite Genre(s): I've got two. The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins. This is a Modern retelling of Jane Eyre that turned out to be boring AF. I've since DNF'd two more books by this author (cuz she legit cannot write a good mystery. #Yikes). This next one might be blasphemy to some, but Nalini Singh's Slave to Sensation was TERRIBLE (sorry?). I bounced at the 50% mark. Lots of ppl have talked the series that book is a part of, but my gut's telling me to ignore them all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ A Genre I'm Interested in Trying Out: Currently, I'm dipping my toe into danmei (v. slowly). I'm also rarin' to read some good F/F novels.
Books/Genres I'm Interested in Discussing/Chatting About: Queer nonfiction, queer romance, mysteries/thrillers, nonfiction, and danmei. But I'm usually pretty game for most book genres? IDK
