I tried to read Judith Butler years ago which ended up making me feel very unintelligent because I hardly understood anything :(

I think this new one is a little more accessible. I'm worried about that myself a bit, because I don't always get theory books, but several friends who aren't into the philosophy of gender at all have said this one was very readable.
