Books/Genres I'm Interested in Discussing/Chatting About: Any, to be honest? I'm currently reading Natasha Pulley's latest, The Mars House, and uh. I have a feeling it's going to be a big one for discussing and thoughts and just all around complicated feelings.

It's such a beautiful book! ♥

I also loved Bedlam Stacks, Lost Future of Pepperharrow, and The Kingdoms!

It is! I'm not big on the Pepperharrow sequel and haven't read the Bedkam Stacks, but I loved The Kingdoms, The Half-Life of Valery K, and most recently The Mars House.

I haven't read Valerie K yet but I just finished the Mars House. Definitely not my favorite of hers, but it does still have her hallmarks that I love.

I'm a scientist, so I had to suspend my disbelief quite a bit with The Mars House (in a "it doesn't work this wayyyy" sort of way), but I do like the way the characters were drawn this time around and that some of the miscommunication was not actually resolved by the end (giving the fandom some fodder). So I was actually pretty happy with it, overall.

Valery K is quite a bit different in plot, considering it's set in the real past rather than some alt history unlike all the others.

I really do like how good Pulley is at explaining things, be it linguistics or actual science (or at least, as with the Mars House, making some of the bogus science sound plausible).

ETA: Anyway, friends? :D

I did (mostly) like the characters in Mars House, I just felt like the plot and some of the world building wasn't fully cooked. Definitely lots to request/write fic on, though!

I'm hoping to read Valery K soon. I've had an ARC of it forever but life got away from me, lol.

Sure!

I did like the worldbuilding, but the thing is that usually she's much better with basing her stuff in reality. I mean, the argument with the cages is exactly turned around and doesn't make scientific sense that way around. (I mean, even the turtles in The Kingdoms were had at least the sheen of being based in science.) But still, I think there's something to work with (like hey, propaganda is a thing).

Yeah, I know what you mean. With Valery K and also Mars House I made an effort to tackle them, because the odds were good I'd like them and also they'd at least get me reading again in my slump. Always a plus. (And then Valery K sort of came up again this year and I had to write an actual ficlet.)
