Hi again :)

Bea Wolf sounds interesting! I managed to make my way through Tolkien's version Beaowulf a few years ago.

I see we have plenty of people in common, some fandom overlap and a joy of literature, do you mind if I friend?

Hi! My goodness, we do have a lot of flisters in common! Clearly you have good taste and we should be friends :)

Also, you live in Norway, wow! I've been twice (Bergen, Oslo, Tromsø and thereabouts), and the area around Flåm has taken my breath away every time. Incredible Middle Earth vibes :)

I have actually -- embarrassingly for a huge Tolkien fan -- never read Tolkien's Beowulf -- one of these days, maybe! I don't remember whose translation we read when I studied it at uni (only that I was disappointed it wasn't Tolkien's, heh. Well, and it wasn't Heaney.), and more recently enjoyed Maria Dahvana Headley's version rather a lot.

Quite many! :) :)

Yes, I live in Norway, in Vestfold actually, another thing close to Middle Earth. There are no grand mountains here, if anything it is more like Hobbiton in places. I’m only a bit south of Oslo, so I’ve been there plenty of times. I’ve been to Bergen, Flåm and Trømsø too and yes there’s certainly great views in Flåm!

I enjoyed Tolkien’s version, but then again it is the only version I have read. I kept note of everything I, with my untrained eye, managed to connect to Norse mythology/history. Maria Dahvana Headley's version is on my to-read-list!

*looks up Vestfold* Oh, that is lovely and Shire-like :)

everything I, with my untrained eye, managed to connect to Norse mythology/history.

haha, same! It was really neat to see everything I recognized in Beowulf either from Norse mythology or from Tolkien, like stealing from the dragon's hoard.

Maria Dahvana Headley's version is on my to-read-list!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
